Understand What a Fitness Certificate Is
A vehicle fitness certificate (also called a roadworthiness certificate) confirms that a vehicle meets the minimum safety standards required to operate on public roads. In Pakistan, fitness certificates are primarily required for:
- Commercial vehicles — buses, trucks, pickups, taxis, rickshaws, vans
- Route permit vehicles (public transport)
- Government-owned vehicles

Book a Fitness Inspection

If your vehicle fails any check, you receive a list of defects. Rectify the defects and return for a re-inspection — typically within 30 days of the initial check at no additional fee for the first re-inspection.
Receive and Display the Fitness Certificate
After a successful inspection, the MVE issues the fitness certificate — a formal document and typically a dashboard sticker showing the valid-until date. For commercial vehicles, this is a mandatory display requirement on the windscreen.
Operating a commercial vehicle without a valid fitness certificate results in fines, vehicle detention, and potential route permit suspension for public transport operators. Keep the document in the vehicle at all times.
Vehicle Registration Problems
Get the brake system repaired by a qualified mechanic, then return for re-inspection within 30 days. The re-inspection is typically free for the first attempt on the same defect.
