A Pakistani CNIC status can be verified online through NADRA's VERISYS portal at verisys.nadra.gov.pk, by sending the CNIC number to 8300 via SMS, or by tracking a pending application using the tracking ID from the NADRA receipt.
Use the NADRA VERISYS Portal for CNIC Status
NADRA's official online CNIC verification tool is verisys.nadra.gov.pk. Open it in any browser. The page loads a simple form asking for the 13-digit CNIC number. Enter it without dashes and click Verify. The result tells you whether the CNIC is valid and active in NADRA's database, the name on the CNIC, and whether it's expired or blocked.
VERISYS is primarily a verification tool — it confirms the CNIC's authenticity rather than showing full application status. For a complete status check including whether a pending renewal has been processed, use the method in Step 2.
Check CNIC Status via SMS on 8300
Send your 13-digit CNIC number as an SMS to 8300 from any Pakistani mobile number. The reply shows your CNIC status, registered name, and whether the CNIC is active, expired, or blocked.
This is the fastest method for a basic validity check — it works from any network on any phone in under 60 seconds. The SMS costs a standard rate; the reply from 8300 is free.
The 8300 service is NADRA's dedicated SMS verification short code. It handles both CNIC checks and some other NADRA document queries depending on the keyword you send.
Track a Pending CNIC Application or Renewal
If you've recently applied for a new CNIC or renewal and want to track the processing status, go to nadra.gov.pk and navigate to "Track Application." Enter your tracking ID from the receipt you received at the NADRA office when you submitted your application.
Tracking statuses: Application Received → Under Processing → Ready for Delivery → Dispatched → Delivered. "Ready for Delivery" means your CNIC is printed and either waiting at the NADRA office (for office collection) or being dispatched to your address (for home delivery). Normal processing takes 15–30 days; urgent takes 7 days; executive takes 3 days.
Visit a NADRA Office for Complex Status Issues
If the online tools don't resolve your query — for example, your CNIC shows as blocked without reason, or a renewal you submitted months ago shows no update — visit the nearest NADRA Facilitation Centre or NADRA Sahulat Centre with your original documents. Counter staff can access the full internal system and explain the exact status of any CNIC or pending application.
Find the nearest NADRA office at nadra.gov.pk under "Find a Registration Centre" — enter your city to get a list of NADRA offices with their addresses and timings. Alternatively, call NADRA's helpline at 051-111-786-100 for a phone-based status check.
Common NADRA Application Problems
Newly issued CNICs take 24–48 hours to sync into the VERISYS database after printing. Try again the next day. The physical card being in your hand doesn't guarantee the database is yet updated.
Ensure your message body contains only the 13-digit number — no spaces, no dashes, no extra characters. Even a trailing space causes this error.
Call NADRA helpline 051-111-786-100 with your tracking ID. Normal processing backlogs can extend timelines. Urgent and executive applications should be followed up within 5 and 2 days respectively if status doesn't change.
Frequently Asked Questions
VERISYS is NADRA's public CNIC verification service. Anyone with a valid CNIC number can verify its authenticity. It's widely used by banks, employers, and government agencies for identity verification. The public portal at verisys.nadra.gov.pk is free.
A blocked CNIC may indicate a fraud flag, court attachment order, or administrative hold. Visit the nearest NADRA office with your original documents to understand the specific reason and the process for unblocking.
CNICs issued after 2018 are valid for 10 years. Older CNICs had 5-year validity. Your CNIC's expiry date is printed on the card itself. After expiry, it still shows your details but is no longer legally valid for official transactions.
The public VERISYS portal confirms basic validity for any CNIC number. Full personal details are only shown to the CNIC holder or authorized institutions with API access. The SMS 8300 service returns the registered name with the CNIC number.
